Question
Answer |
Hello Reading Fairy, tell us a little bit about yourself.
I am the host of Rock, Red & Eat! I have the pleasure of sharing all my favorite books with children and adults. It’s the best job I’ve ever created.
How do you select the books?
It’s a secret…well not really just hard to explain. There’s a complicated rubric involved.
Basically my goal is to expose children to a variety of literature.
The picture books range from the classics to African folktales.

Did you go to school or have special training to become a Reading Fairy?
No, I attended Morgan State University to become a research scientist. I have a bachelor’s degree in biology and worked in the field for a few years.
I also attended The College of New Jersey to become a certified teacher. I taught kindergarten for several years.
As for being a fairy, I think it’s just the way God designed me.
What do you do when your not reading books?
I am also the Creative Director at Reading Fun Enterprises. The company that produces the live performances, TV show and the product line of Rock, Read & Eat! I’m the busiest fairy you’ll ever meet.
Do you have children of your own?
No, but I do have what most people say is the biggest cat they have ever seen.
His name is Jamar and he doesn’t like to read but he does enjoy lying on the page that I’m reading.
What’s your favorite food to Eat!
Anything and everything chocolate. But if you notice I don’t eat at Rock, Read & Eat! The first year of the program I did and I gained a few lbs.
That extra weight made the Rock (music and movement) aspect a little difficult.
